Best Bed Risers UK

By  Enda McLarnon

What are the best bed & furniture risers?

Thanks for taking your time to read our reviews on the best bed risers that are currently available on the UK market. These risers are not only suitable for beds, but they are also suitable for other types of furniture including desks, tables, and sofas.

Bed risers are either made of wood and more commonly they are made from a tough and durable unbreakable heavy duty plastic. Some metal options are also available.

The best bed risers are the Utopia bedding 8 piece adjustable furniture risers. These can be adjusted to three heights 8cm, 13 cm or 20 cm so as you can decide which height works best for your needs.

We review those in more detail below.

What is the purpose of bed & furniture risers?

Bed risers are essentially supports that can raise a bed or other furniture safely. Bed risers in particular have three main purposes:

  1. They can create extra space under the bed - allows for more storage which can be handy if you don't have much storage space
  2. Raise a bed to the correct height - can make a low bed higher for small children and older people without having to replace the existing bed
  3. It makes it much easier to clean under the bed and that can be really important for allergy sufferers

These are of course also furniture risers and can be used for sofas, chairs and desks. Many desks are too low especially for taller people, and a set of these can quickly solve that problem.

For senior people having that extra height in a sofa, armchair or their bed can make getting up that little bit easier.

Bed Riser Buying Guide

What Heights are available for Bed Risers?

Manufacturers make these in a few sizes and they will show those sizes in either inches or centimetres. We have shown the two most popular heights just below.

2" (5cms)

3" (7.62 cms) - most popular for beds

6" (15.24 cms)

Some manufacturers make combinations of these with a choice of height options depending on how you use them. For example the best selling Utopia brand offer 3 height options which are:

3.15" (8cms)

5.1" (13cms)

7.9" (20 cms)

What is the Weight Limit for Bed Risers?

Bed risers have to be very well made and be able to support a lot of weight. They are used to raise beds, tables and in some cases chairs and even sofas. The typical weight they can support is up to 1,300 lbs (590 Kg)

Please note this will vary slightly from riser to riser so always check the individual product's weight restrictions. Some can support heavier weights but in reality the average 1300 lbs of support is going to be lots for most practical use.

Castors and Bed Risers?

Bed risers are not suitable for castors. Most of these bed risers have a raised edge that is designed to hold a leg of some kind. Castors are essentially small moveable wheels which move about and make the furniture or bed easier to move. They will still move about on top of bed risers.

With some castors they can be locked into place to stop them from moving. That will of course help. The alternative is to remove the castors which usually screw out from a metal plate. You would then need to be careful in the positioning of the bed risers as these are the strong points of the bed.
