In this article we explain the best cleaner for shower doors. The type of glass that you have on a shower door varies slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. The vast majority of glass used is some type of clear low iron glass or a cast glass. Almost all newer shower doors use a toughened laminated glass which can also be tinted or frosted if you prefer a privacy option. The main reason laminate glass is used is for safety purposes.
Generally speaking shower doors can be a large pane of glass or it can be panels of glass inside a frame. There are of course shower enclosures which may be part glass or entirely made from glass. Some shower doors may be made from acrylic rather than glass as they offer more options in terms of design, style and colours.
When it comes to cleaning glass shower doors, the main things a shower door cleaner needs to be able to do is to be able to remove water marks, soap scum, dead skin, skin oils and limescale. The ultimate goal is to leave a nice clean and hygienic door that has shining glass. The other consideration is that you want a product that works quickly and with as little effort as possible.
We have looked at what is available and made some recommendations just below.

Shower Door Cleaner Full Buyer's Guide
We always like to include a full buyer's guide for UK buyers so as they can be fully informed about the various features that go to make up a good shower door cleaner.
Many of you will understand that cleaning a shower can take up a lot of time. Washing it down, cleaning it and then rinsing that off and starting to buff to a shine is hard work and can take much longer than you would expect.
Thankfully, many shower door cleaners are now spray and leave. These do work really well as long as the shower is relatively new. For older showers you may need to use a limescale remover first to get rid of older build ups.
Dealing with limescale build up in showers
The amount of limescale you get will vary greatly from area to area. Hard water areas will suffer a lot from limescale
In older showers this can build up over time. Many of the shower cleaners do not get rid of these build ups but they can help keep it away once it has been removed.
We recommend using something like this limescale remover from the HG brand to do that first, and then start using a spray and leave product.
Limescale can be hard to remove especially if it has built up over time. It may need a few treatments to get rid of it completely. A product like the one above is a foam spray which if left for 5 minutes does a very good job of removing limescale.
You can then rinse off and re-apply if required. Once you get shot of the limescale then a normal shower spray can be used which takes minimum effort.

How to use a Shower Door Cleaner?
There are two methods for doing this, the easy way and the hard way. A lot of people still prefer to wash down the doors, use some form of bathroom cleaner and a squeegee to clean the doors and then buff the door with a dry cloth.
There is nothing wrong with that and it does work, but it take a long time and it takes considerable efforts to get great results.
The easier option is the spray and leave option. Even if you don't believe that it works, we would urge you to give it a try. We think you will be very surprised at the results you get.
Other Methods to clean a Shower Door
If you search on the Internet you will see the older methods for cleaning shower doors. Typically those are to use a squeegee to remove any water and water marks. Then spray the door with white vinegar and leave for a while, anything from 10-15 minutes.
Then apply baking soda to a sponge and scrub the glass clean. Finally rinse off with water and then dry the glass with a soft cloth such as a microfiber cloth.
This method, and others like it do work. They are hard work and you will get a nice clean and shine but they are very time consuming.
With the newer spray and leave products, it take about 30 seconds to do a light spray and get a similar result.
