Best Hand Cream for Men With Dry, Rough or Chapped Hands

Here we look at the best cream for builders or for men with rough hands. On the building site, working in the garden or any other manual work usually means rough hands.

Just apply some hand cream and make those fingers and thumbs as soft and pliable as you need. These creams are also great for any man suffering from cracked hands, or from deep splits or hacks in the hands.

The best hand cream for men with dry rough hands is O'Keefes working hands cream. This contains glycerin which protects the skin and creates a protective surface for the hands.

Many buyers say that this cream is the only thing that gave them relief from those deep splits. The cream sank into them, and started to heal them. You'll notice a difference after just a couple of uses.

We basically only use this one as we know from our own experience that this works. What we also like is that there is no scent and you can almost feel the moisture going into your skin. It is pretty impressive stuff.

Those are our top four hand creams for men with rough hands. They are we believe worth a try.

What Causes Cracked and Dry Hands?

For most men, cracked and dry hands are simply caused by a lack of moisture. Men working in an office or an internal building will suffer much less than any guy working outside. That is simply because the weather has no impact on someone working inside.

However, when it gets cold during the winter, that can have a dramatic impact on the skin. The colder weather does dry the hands out.

The most important thing though is really the type of work that a man does. Physical labour such as construction, brick laying and anyone who who relies on the day-to-day use of their hands, will at some stage be prone to cracked, chapped and dried out hands.

Gloves do offer some protection, but many men simply refuse to wear those for a whole variety of reasons.

Many men develop cracks, which can be quite deep in the hands. These skin cracks happen when your hands are so dry that the skin loses the oils and moisture. The skin then hardens and will crack as soon as it is stretched. The tell tale signs look like gashes and those will bleed, and can be quite painful.

Preventing Dry or Cracked Hands

Depending on your line of work, it is close to impossible to prevent the drying out of your hands. If you are out in all weathers you are subject to wind, rain, hail, snow and sunshine. All of those will impact on the skin on your hands. Add to that working with rougher materials such as concrete, rough wood, gardening etc, and your hands will suffer.

We know that gloves certainly offer protection. However, what is more important is to apply something that moisturises the skin on the hand before putting gloves on. That is where these creams can really help. For most men it is probably harder to get into the habit of putting some cream on.

That is why we recommend having one at home and carrying another in the van, or whatever means of transport you have. In reality is takes about 15 seconds to rub any of these creams in, and about a minute for the greasy or sticky feeling to disappear. It is worth the effort in doing that.
